A rare and original table-top writing box in the wonderful deep reddish-black oak which is typical of the best early furniture from mid-Wales.
The sides have scalloped edges and are beautifully embellished with delicate incised decoration and punchwork. The iron butterfly hinges are original, although the former clasp and lock have been removed at some point in the distant past.
Wonderful original colour and surface patination.
Montgomeryshire circa 1640
10.5 inches high, 25 inches wide, 10.75 inches deep.
