FAQs

Regency style furniture emerged in Britain during the early 19th century, characterized by classical proportions, inspired by ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian forms, often utilizing exotic timbers and restrained ornamentation.

Regency pedestals typically featured solid timber carcases overlaid with decorative veneers such as burr elm, mahogany, or rosewood, constructed with traditional mortise and tenon joints and hand-cut dovetails.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-accurate secondary woods like pine or oak, hand-cut dovetailing, genuine veneer figuring without modern backing, and wear patterns consistent with age such as oxidized brass hardware.

Antique pedestals can be used as sculptural anchor pieces in modern rooms, topped with minimalist ceramic sculptures or contemporary lighting to create a deliberate contrast between old and new.

Burr elm furniture should be kept out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources to prevent veneer lifting and timber cracking, maintaining its finish with occasional applications of microcrystalline wax.
