Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian furniture, produced between 1901 and 1910, is characterised by lighter, more refined proportions compared to heavy Victorian pieces. Influenced by 18th-century Sheraton and Hepplewhite designs, it frequently incorporates mahogany and satinwood inlays, delicate marquetry, and clean, geometric glazing.

Edwardian display cabinets were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, often accented with satinwood or boxwood stringing and marquetry. Glazing featured floating glass panes set within slender wooden astragal bars or frames, supported by internal fabric linings and softwoods like pine for unseen drawer linings or backboards.

Authentic Edwardian pieces display signs of period construction, including hand-cut dovetail joints on secondary timbers, subtle hand-planing marks on non-visible surfaces, and original brass fittings or locks. Examining the marquetry under magnification will reveal natural grain variations in the wood inlay rather than modern printed finishes.

Position the cabinet against a neutral or rich background wall to accentuate the deep tone of the mahogany. Use the glazed shelves to exhibit collections of monochrome ceramics, glassware, or hardback books to balance historic craftsmanship with contemporary minimalism.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent the timber from warping, drying out, or bleaching the delicate inlay.
