Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1920s:
Wheel-engraved floral motifs on the border panels: hand-worked decoration typical around the 1920s.
Cut-glass flower bosses securing the mirror slips: early twentieth-century Murano assembly.
Bevelled central plate framed by individual glass sections: traditional layered construction.
Natural desilvering and cloudy foxing on the border panels: decades of gradual oxidisation.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This early 20th century Venetian Baroque wall mirror follows an octagonal form constructed from glass, mirrored glass and wood with a clear silver colour scheme. The piece incorporates ornate scrolled cresting to the top and bottom, cut glass and etched panels with floral decoration, and glass rosette mounts, displaying typical areas of foxing and patination alongside a very clear main glass plate. Additional visual elements include red backing beneath the lower frame, engraved botanical motifs along the side borders, and patterned brass studs lining the bottom edge. Measuring 103 cm high, 57 cm wide, and 4 cm deep, the mirror functions practically above a sideboard in a dining room, hallway or living area to reflect light and add decorative depth to an interior scheme.

Venetian mirrors originated in Murano, Italy, characterised by elaborate frames constructed from mirrored glass, intricate wheel-engraved motifs, bevelled borders, and decorative glass rosettes covering frame fasteners.

These mirrors are typically constructed using silvered glass plates, hand-etched glass surround panels, a wooden backing structure, and glass rosettes or leaf accents secured with metallic pins.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut and wheel-engraved glass panels, subtle variations in etching symmetry, hand-shaped wooden backing boards, and natural desilvering or light foxing on the glass.

A Venetian mirror serves as a prominent focal point when positioned above a sideboard, mantelpiece, or console table, adding light reflection and formal structure to contemporary spaces.

Dust the ornate surface regularly with a soft dry microfibre cloth, and clean the glass segments using a mild alcohol-free solution applied directly to the cloth rather than the frame.
