This set of eight 18th century Georgian Windsor comb back side chairs follows the Thames Valley tradition. Made from fruitwood and solid elm, the chairs exhibit a warm brown timber colour with distinctive grain patterns on the saddled elm seats. Each chair features a shaped top comb rail, a blind shaped pierced splat, slender spindles, and turned legs with connecting stretchers. The suite stands 90 cm high, 48 cm wide, and 49 cm deep, offering practical proportions for dining spaces. Suiting traditional and country house interiors, these side chairs provide comfortable seating around a dining table. Their sturdy construction and classic silhouette allow them to function as daily seating or as accent pieces in reception rooms. The original condition preserves the authentic character of the period woodwork without modern alterations.

A comb back Windsor chair features vertical spindles topped by a horizontal, shaped crest rail resembling a hair comb, a design originating in 18th-century British country furniture.

These chairs typically feature solid elm seats for strength and decorative grain, combined with fruitwood, ash, or beech for turned legs, spindles, and shaped back rails.

Authentic Georgian examples exhibit hand-shaped saddled seats, wedged tenon joinery, subtle variations in hand-turned legs, and natural surface patination from age.

A set of comb back chairs pairs well with modern oak dining tables or natural stone surfaces to create a balanced contrast between traditional craft and clean contemporary lines.

Maintain stable indoor humidity, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically to protect the timber and patination.
