This unusual Edwardian armchair dates to 1900 and follows an Edwardian Neoclassical style. Constructed from mahogany and satinwood, the piece presents in a mahogany brown colour with a polished finish and contrasting lighter satinwood marquetry inlay. The chair comprises a square back featuring a central decorated panel, sweeping curved X-shaped open arms, a curule X-frame base at the front with an inlaid shell and stringing, outswept back legs, and mahogany turned shaped stretchers uniting the rear frame. A mauve textile seat cushion rests on the timber seat platform. The dimensions are 92 cm high, 56 cm wide, and 50 cm deep. Suitable for various spaces in a traditional or contemporary home, this armchair works well in a drawing room, hallway, bedroom, or as a desk chair. The compact proportions allow placement as an accent piece in a corner or alongside a fireplace, providing a comfortable seat while adding architectural interest to an interior scheme.

Edwardian inlaid furniture is defined by lightened structural proportions compared to heavy Victorian predecessors, often featuring Neoclassical revival shapes, fine satinwood or boxwood marquetry, and rich mahogany woods.

Traditional curule chairs from the turn of the twentieth century were primarily crafted using dense hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut, frequently accented with delicate wood veneers and woven fabric or leather upholstery.

Authentic Edwardian pieces generally display precise hand-cut or early machine joinery, smooth French polish finishes showing natural age-related patina, and classical motifs like urns or floral swags executed in genuine wood inlay.

An accent chair with an architectural X-frame base works well as a statement piece in a hallway, bedroom corner, or alongside contemporary neutral soft furnishings to create visual interest through contrasting silhouettes.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat radiators to prevent shrinking or lifting inlay. Clean with a soft dry cloth and apply beeswax polish sparingly along the grain to preserve the woods luster.
