This Napoleon III jewellery box is an antique French piece from 1890, styled for a French Chateau setting. The object takes the form of an oval container made from gilt bronze and glass, presenting a gleaming gold colour overall with a textured metal surface and an etched glass lid. The exterior displays detailed floral and acanthus leaf foliate scroll relief work, accompanied by decorative hardware hinges and clasps, four ornate paw feet, and an interior lined with red silk cushioning. The piece stands at 10 cm high, 24 cm wide, and 15 cm deep. In a contemporary or traditional interior today, this jewellery box functions well as an accent piece or storage container on a bedside table or dressing chest. The design accommodates small valuables while adding a traditional aesthetic to the room. The construction combines glass and metallic elements with visible relief decoration, resting stably on its four feet.

A nineteenth-century gilt bronze jewellery casket is a decorative, hinged container crafted from cast metal finished with mercury gilding or electroplating, often combined with bevelled or etched glass lid inserts to store personal items.

These boxes were constructed using gilt bronze or ormolu, brass, etched or bevelled glass panels, and interior silk or velvet linings, providing protection for stored items.

Original pieces feature cast relief detailing such as acanthus leaves, scroll feet, or botanical motifs, natural age-related tarnish or oxidisation in crevices, hand-etched glass details, and period-appropriate hinge mechanisms.

Place the casket on a bedside table, dressing table, or vanity tray alongside structured porcelain or marble accents to balance the textured metallic finish.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid chemical metal polishes or abrasive sprays that can wear down the original gilded layer, and clean glass surfaces carefully using a dampened swab.
