This eighteenth-century Georgian wine goblet originates from England, taking the form of a heavy baluster stem drinking vessel fashioned from clear lead glass and crystal in an English Country House style. The piece comprises a bell-shaped bowl featuring wheel-engraved floral motifs, swags in a diaper border, and a bird, resting upon a baluster stem with a cushion knop and an inverted baluster, all terminating in a domed foot with a rough pontil mark on the underside and age-related wear to the rim. It stands 20 cm high, 8.6 cm wide, and 9 cm deep. Displaying this glassware upon a sideboard top brings a traditional dining element into a modern home, where it serves as a decorative display piece or a historical tabletop accent. The clear material catches the ambient light, highlighting the intricate wheel engraving around the rim and the tactile quality of the knopped stem.

Georgian baluster glass, prominent in early 18th-century Britain, is defined by solid stems featuring shaped knops, heavy proportions, and broad bases designed to give weight and stability to drinking vessels.

These vessels were typically hand-blown using lead crystal, also known as flint glass, which provided superior clarity, brilliance, and weight compared to soda glass.

Authentic pieces generally display a rough or smoothed pontil mark on the underside of the base, minor asymmetry from hand-blowing, greyish or dark tinting within the lead glass, and evidence of hand wheel-engraving.

Historical glassware can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, positioned on a dining room sideboard to catch natural light, or grouped with other period vessels on a styling tray.

Hand wash antique lead glass individually in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding dishwashers, sudden temperature shifts, and abrasive cloths that could cause scratching or clouding.
