An air twist cordial glass is an 18th-century English drinking vessel characterised by internal spiral patterns formed by trapped air columns within the stem. Originating around the 1740s to 1760s, these glasses were created to consume small servings of sweetened spirits or cordials.

Glassmakers created air twists by making deliberate indentations in a gathering of molten lead glass, which trapped pockets of air when encased in an outer layer of clear glass. The gather was then elongated and rotated, forming helical corkscrews or multi-strand spirals before being attached to the bowl and foot.

Authentic pieces typically feature heavy lead glass construction with a slightly greyish or greenish tint, a pontil mark or ground-down pontil scar on the underside of the conical foot, and subtle hand-blown irregularities in thickness and symmetry.

Antique stemware can be displayed in illuminated glass cabinets, arranged on a brass tray atop a sideboard, or grouped along deep window sills where natural light highlights the internal twist detail.

Hand wash only using lukewarm water and mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes that cause thermal shock. Dry immediately with a soft, lint-free cloth, and avoid storing glasses upside down to prevent stress on delicate rims.
