We have been fortunate to get hold of some truly stunning 18th and 19th century Italian frames that we have added high quality 6mm mirror plate too.

It also has a gilt in set and exterior boarder which highlights the mirror perfectly. There is a small loss on the right side of the frame but apart from that its in fabulous condition.

This 18th-century Italian wall mirror combines a wooden and gesso frame with a modern 6mm glass mirror plate. The rectangular frame is hand-painted with a grey and green faux marble finish, accompanied by gilded interior and exterior moulding, and includes a top hanging loop. Visible details comprise a small loss on the right side of the frame alongside the original gesso and paintwork. Measuring 104 cm high, 88 cm wide, and 4 cm deep, the piece can be hung in either portrait or landscape orientation. Suitable for modern interiors, this wall mirror fits naturally above a sideboard in a dining room, living area, or hallway. The neutral grey and green tones with gilded highlights coordinate easily with traditional or eclectic room schemes while providing a practical reflective surface for daily use.

18th-century Italian painted mirrors often feature decorative paint finishes, such as faux marbre, trompe loeil effects, and gilded mouldings, reflecting the ornate Grand Tour and Neoclassical design traditions of the era.

Craftsmen constructed the structural frames from softwoods like pine or poplar, applying layers of gesso, hand-painted pigments, and varnish to imitate marble veining, often finished with gold leaf accents.

Authentic pieces display natural paint craquelure, original hand-carved joinery on the reverse, age-related oxidation or foxing to the mirror plate, and subtle irregularities in the hand-painted details.

Position the mirror above a sideboard, mantelpiece, or console table to create a focal point, pairing its muted tones with contemporary plaster finishes or natural timber furnishings.

Dust the painted frame gently using a dry, soft microfibre brush, avoiding water or chemical cleaning products that could dissolve historic paint layers or delicate gilded surfaces.
