Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. This pair of mahogany bow front bedside chests of drawers follows the Georgian style and dates from 1920. Each narrow chest has a polished reddish-brown finish that shows the natural grain on the sides, a moulded top, and four graduated bow-front drawers fitted with traditional brass swan neck handles and decorative circular backplates. The cabinets stand on shaped bracket feet and display fine moulded detailing along the gently curved fronts. Each chest measures 69 cm high, 31 cm wide, and 44 cm deep. These versatile cabinets serve as bedside tables or occasional storage units in a bedroom or living space. The compact proportions provide practical storage while maintaining a traditional English country house appearance. The matching pair works well on either side of a bed or placed against a wall as small side chests.

FAQs

A bow-front bedside chest is a compact piece of bedroom furniture characterised by a gently curved convex front facade. Popularised during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries in Georgian and Regency furniture design, these chests offer drawer storage within a curved footprint.

Traditional Georgian style chests are primarily constructed from solid and veneered mahogany, selected for its dense grain and stability. Secondary timber such as pine or oak was used for drawer linings, accompanied by cast brass drop handles or knobs.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer linings, hand-planed back panels, and signs of timber shrinkage along solid surfaces. Original brass fittings show hand-tooling marks and natural oxidisation around mounting points.

Position dark mahogany chests alongside upholstered headboards in neutral linen fabrics to create textural contrast. Table lamps with ceramic or glass bases placed on the surface balance the visual weight of the wood while maintaining symmetry.

Maintain mahogany surfaces by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying beeswax polish annually along the direction of the grain. Avoid placement near direct heat sources or sunlight to prevent timber movement and finish fading.
