Louis XV style mirrors are defined by Rococo design principles, featuring asymmetrical foliage, delicate scrollwork, C-scrolls, and shell motifs. Popularised in 18th-century France and widely revived in the late 19th century, these mirrors often incorporate cast gilt metal frames and ornate crestings.

These mirrors were constructed using cast bronze or brass, which was detailed by hand and gilded to produce a reflective gold surface. Frame borders often feature cut or etched glass panels alongside bevelled central glass mirrors.

Authentic period pieces display cast metal frames with hand-chased details, visible joins or assembly screws on the reverse, and heavy bronze or brass construction. The mirror glass may show light oxidisation or wear to the silvering consistent with age.

A Rococo mirror can be mounted above a fireplace mantelpiece or a minimalist console table to serve as a focal point. Position it opposite a light source to reflect natural illumination and contrast structured contemporary architecture with decorative curves.

Dust the gilt bronze frame regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush or lint-free cloth. Avoid chemical cleaning agents or abrasive polishes on the gilding, and clean the glass panels using a lightly dampened cloth while protecting the metal mountings from moisture.
