Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This advertising mirror represents a 1920s Art Deco piece produced for Triumph cycles and motors. The object consists of a rectangular glass plate bearing reverse-printed lettering in red, white, and blue, set within a mitred dark brown oak timber frame. The mirrored glass displays foxing, peeling, and surface wear across the pictorial ground, alongside an original hardwood backing board. The visible lettering includes the words RIDE at the top, TRIUMPH across the centre, and CYCLES & MOTORS along the lower section, accompanied by graphic outlines of early vehicles. The mirror measures 58 cm in width and 48 cm in height. Such an advertising piece finds an appropriate home today within a gentleman's library, study, or hallway, mounted upon a narrow wall space where collectors can display automotive memorabilia alongside period furnishings.

FAQs

Advertising mirrors were commercial promotional displays popular from the late 19th to mid-20th century, often displayed in public houses, shops, and garages to promote consumer brands and manufacturers.

These pieces typically feature mirrored plate glass with reverse-painted or gilded typography, set within a solid timber surround such as oak or pine.

Authentic examples display organic signs of age, including oxidisation, silvering loss, and foxing on the glass backing, alongside period-appropriate typography and timber construction.

Commercial mirrors function well as statement wall pieces in home bars, dining areas, or hallways, adding historical interest when contrasted against contemporary colour palettes.

Dust the frame with a dry cloth and gently clean the front glass surface using a soft microfibre cloth, keeping moisture away from the edges to prevent further backing separation.
