This Edwardian fireside armchair is attributed to Heal's of London and dates from the early 20th century, specifically around 1910. The piece is fashioned from solid oak with a warm brown finish and a traditionally woven rush seat in a pale straw hue. Notable details include a shaped lattice backrest with a grid pattern, wide flat open armrests, square-section legs, and sledge-type feet connected by an H-stretcher. The timber displays a clean, intact surface with a rich grain texture. Measuring 70 cm in height, 61 cm in width, and 52 cm in depth, the proportions remain compact and practical for daily seating. In a contemporary interior, this Arts and Crafts armchair suits placement beside a fireplace, in a living room, or as a reading chair in a study. The traditional materials and sturdy construction complement English country house styling as well as minimalist modern spaces. The seat offers supportive comfort while the open frame maintains an airy visual presence in the room.

Arts and Crafts seating is characterised by honest joinery, traditional handcraft techniques, natural timber finishes, and functional, unadorned silhouettes that highlight material quality over excessive ornament.

Antique Heals chairs frequently feature solid oak or walnut frames combined with hand-woven rush, woven cord, or simple leather upholstery to maintain a clean, natural aesthetic.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, exposed pegging, quartersawn oak graining, and an original patinated finish devoid of modern synthetic lacquers.

A low fireside chair creates a grounded accent in a living room alcove when paired with a modern floor lamp, textured wool throw, or set alongside minimalist timber joinery.

Clean the timber frame with a dry cloth and apply beeswax sparingly, while lightly misting the rush seat with water periodically to prevent the natural fibres from becoming brittle.
