This Georgian George III tea caddy is made from mahogany in a warm brown colour with a polished finish and brass mounts. The rectangular box stands on shaped bracket feet with a moulded base and features a stepped hinged lid with a swan-neck handle at the top. The front incorporates a pierced brass keyhole escutcheon, while the interior provides three sections for tea and one for a stirring spoon, complete with a lined lid. The piece shows slight surface wear and a missing small section on one of the rear feet, with no key included. Measuring 15.5 cm high, 23 cm wide, and 13.5 cm deep, this lidded container suits placement on a sideboard top in a living room, dining room, or hallway. It offers traditional storage for loose leaf tea or small keepsakes while adding classic English country house character to interior surfaces.

A Georgian tea caddy is a lockable container constructed during the 18th and early 19th centuries to store loose-leaf tea, which was a high-value commodity during that era.

18th-century tea caddies were typically constructed from solid or veneered hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and satinwood, often completed with cast brass handles, escutcheons, and interior foil lining.

Authentic George III examples feature period-correct joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, original brass fittings exhibiting natural oxidisation, and timber wear consistent with historic age.

An antique tea caddy functions well as a decorative focal point on a console table, sideboard, or desk, and can be repurposed to store small items or jewellery.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a dry, lint-free cloth and applying a neutral beeswax polish sparingly to protect the wood grain, keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
