An unusual Regency mahogany bergere chair from the nineteenth century combines dark brown wood with black leather upholstery and woven cane side panels. The piece has reeded turned front legs with brass castors, elbow pads on the arms, and an unusually arched back with button-tufting on both the backrest and the seat. Measuring 108 cm high, 69 cm wide, and 80 cm deep, the armchair sits comfortably in a gentleman's library or study. Positioned by a desk or used as a fireside seat, this practical armchair provides a supportive, cushioned spot for reading and working. The combination of exposed dark wood, natural cane, and black leather creates a traditional British aesthetic that suits both period interiors and rooms with classic furniture collections.

A Regency bergere chair is a type of upholstered armchair originating from early 19th-century Britain, characterized by an exposed mahogany frame, woven cane panels on the sides or back, and loose or fixed deep cushions.

These chairs were primarily crafted using dense hardwoods such as Cuban mahogany, combined with hand-woven natural cane framing, horsehair upholstery filling, leather or silk coverings, and brass castors.

Authentic pieces display crisp hand-carved reeding or fluting on turned legs, original brass collar castors, hand-stitched upholstery, and signs of age such as natural oxidation and shrinkage lines in the timber joints.

Place the chair alongside a minimalist modern side table or within a quiet reading corner, allowing the rich timber tones and detailed hand-woven cane work to provide textural contrast against neutral walls.

Keep the chair away from direct heat sources to prevent the timber and cane from drying out, treat the leather periodically with a specialist wax conditioner, and clean the cane gently using a soft damp cloth.
