This matching pair of Victorian armchairs combines traditional form with fresh textiles, covered in a sage green Zena Ikat linen fabric patterned with white, purple, blue and red geometric motifs. Each compact seat stands on turned ebonised mahogany legs at the front and splayed legs at the rear, supporting a slightly reclined back, rolled over arms and reversible feather seat cushions finished with green velvet piping. The upholstery shows clean lines and firm tailoring throughout the frame. Measuring 96.5 cm high, 73.5 cm wide and 73.5 cm deep, these comfortable chairs suit living rooms, studies or bedrooms within an English country house interior. They offer versatile seating options for reading corners or fireside placement, bringing pattern and texture to both period and modern spaces.

Victorian armchairs, originating during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901), typically feature substantial timber frames, turned or carved legs, comfortable coil-sprung padding, and low-sloped arms designed for relaxed indoor lounging.

Frames were usually crafted from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, while interior padding relied on natural materials including coiled iron springs, jute webbing, hair stuffing, and thick cotton batting.

Authentic nineteenth-century armchairs often feature hand-turned front legs, brass castors, heavy timber frame joinery, and evidence of traditional upholstery techniques such as hand-tied springs or original webbing underneath.

A pair of Victorian armchairs reupholstered in contemporary printed fabrics, such as ikat linen, can serve as a focal point in a neutral living space, blending historical structure with modern textile design.

Regular gentle vacuuming with a soft brush attachment prevents dust accumulation, while immediate spot-cleaning with a dry or slightly damp cloth protects linen upholstery from setting stains; direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent fabric fading.
