Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 1900s watchmakers box from the Victorian utilitarian period provides a compact storage solution for a gentleman's library or office desk. Constructed from pine with a dark brown finish, the piece incorporates six miniature drawers fitted with tiny turned wooden knobs, a lift-up hinged lid, and a secure metal latch hook at the front. Visible details include the natural wood grain running horizontally across the main body and drawer fronts, minor surface wear and discoloration across the aged timber, and the simple overlapping edge mouldings on the lid. The box measures 19 cm wide by 10.5 cm deep by 7.5 cm high. Practical for daily use in a modern home, this desktop cabinet sits neatly on a surface to hold small collectibles, stationery, or sewing supplies. The hinged lid opens to reveal an upper compartment, while the arrangement of drawers below offers sorted organization for small items. The straightforward construction and dark timber tone suit traditional or rustic study spaces without taking up excessive workspace.

FAQs

Traditionally crafted for horologists, watchmakers boxes were utilitarian storage units featuring multiple small drawers and compartments designed to organise delicate watch parts, balance wheels, and specialist tools.

These functional cabinets were typically constructed from durable woods such as pine, oak, or mahogany, often held together with dovetail joints and fitted with small turned knobs and iron or brass latches.

Authentic period pieces display genuine signs of functional wear, including oil marks inside drawers, hand-cut joinery, oxidized metal fittings, and uneven, naturally aged wood patination.

Position this desktop chest on an office desk or sideboard to serve as a distinctive organiser for stationery, jewellery, or small curios, adding historical character to contemporary spaces.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and moisture, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying clear beeswax polish periodically to preserve the natural finish.
