This eighteenth-century Georgian wall mirror displays a moulded warm brown walnut wood frame and an original patina. The rectangular frame encloses a heavily foxed and distressed glass plate showing extensive deterioration and dark patches, while the timber exhibits slight losses at the corners and a split pine board on the reverse. Measuring 69 cm high and 47 cm wide, the piece operates in practical terms as a compact wall-hanging accessory. In a contemporary home, this mirror suits placement above a sideboard in a dining room, hallway, or living space within an English country house setting. The aged materials and weathered glass plate add historical character to an interior wall arrangement without requiring extensive modification or modern restoration.

Eighteenth-century walnut mirrors typically feature warm-toned crossbanded or figure-veneered timber frames, often structured with cushion mouldings or simple moulded borders framing a glass plate.

These pieces were constructed using walnut veneers applied over pine or oak substrates, fitted with early hand-blown glass plates silvered with mercury.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut timber backing boards, period jointing techniques, cross-grain mouldings, and natural oxidisation or silvering loss on the mirror plate.

A traditional walnut mirror can be positioned above a console table, fireplace, or hallway sideboard to add warm timber tones and geometric structure to modern wall surfaces.

Dust the timber frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners on the aged glass plate to protect the delicate backing.
