This Art Deco bedside or lamp table originates from 1930 and arrives in a warm brown walnut timber with veneer and bone elements. The piece stands 80 cm high, 35.8 cm wide, and 37.8 cm deep. The construction incorporates a single top drawer above a lower cupboard door, mounted on four slender legs joined by sweeping lower stretchers. Decorative touches include geometric sunburst veneer patterns across the surfaces, circular marquetry inlays at the centre of both the top and the cupboard door, and intricate banding along the mouldings. Two small rounded knobs made from bone and brass serve as handles on the drawer and door. A professional wax and polish finish protects the timber grain, and thorough restoration addresses necessary areas. In a contemporary home, this compact storage unit fits neatly beside a bed as a bedside table or in a living space as a lamp table. The tall, narrow proportions suit smaller spaces while providing surface display area and concealed storage within the cupboard and drawer compartments. The neutral tones of the warm brown walnut integrate readily into various interior styles, from period Art Deco rooms to mixed modern settings.

FAQs

Art Deco furniture, prominent during the 1920s and 1930s, is defined by geometric shapes, clean lines, decorative marquetry, and rich wood veneers. Pieces often feature streamlined forms combined with contrasting inlaid details and turned or bentwood support structures.

Art Deco bedside cabinets frequently utilised figured wood veneers such as walnut or mahogany, inlaid with contrasting timber banding. Knobs and accents were typically crafted from bone, ceramic, Bakelite, or polished metals.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut joinery, quartered or sunburst timber veneers, geometric marquetry borders, and period-appropriate door fittings. Examination of interior drawer construction and original polish application helps confirm period origin.

Position the piece alongside a upholstered bedstead with neutral linen bedding to highlight the warm timber tones. Complement the geometric inlay with modern brass lighting or simple ceramic table decor.

Maintain timber surfaces by dusting regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth. Apply a natural beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain, keeping the cabinet away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture.
