FAQs

Art Deco bedroom furniture emerged during the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by bold geometric shapes, clean vertical lines, and polished surfaces. It frequently incorporates rich wood veneers, such as walnut or mahogany, accented by contrasting stone tops or metallic fittings.

Art Deco cabinets were traditionally constructed using solid timber frames overlaid with highly figured wood veneers, such as burr walnut or macassar ebony. Top surfaces often utilised polished slabs of variegated marble, paired with metal handles made from chrome, nickel, or brass.

Authentic pieces feature Period-appropriate construction techniques like hand-cut dovetail joints, heavy original marble slabs, and geometric carved motifs. Original cabinet hardware typically displays characteristic angular, rectangular, or stepped styling in polished metals.

Place the unit alongside a modern upholstered bed frame to contrast clean textile textures against figured wood grain and marble. Complement the piece with low-profile lighting or minimalist decorative objects to keep the geometric silhouette unobscured.

Dust wood surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a neutral beeswax polish periodically along the grain. Marble tops should be wiped clean with a damp cloth using mild soap, avoiding acidic liquids or abrasive cleaners that can etch natural stone.
