Pair of Antique Edwardian Inlaid Mahogany Carver Armchairs

1900 - 1920
Description

A superb pair of antique Edwardian inlaid mahogany carver armchairs. They were made in England, they date from around the 1900-1910 period.

The quality is outstanding, they are an impressive size and have beautiful details. The pierced back rests have gorgeous carving featuring

Prince of Wales feathers, swags and rosettes. They stand on fluted legs and have inlaid satin wood designs on the back rests and under the seats.

We have had them re-polished and re-upholstered in a cream cotton fabric, the condition is excellent for their age. There is just some extremely minor wear remaining beneath the polish here and there.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced during the reign of King Edward VII (19011910), Edwardian carver armchairs typically feature lightweight frames, swept armrests, and decorative backrests inspired by 18th-century Sheraton and Hepplewhite designs.

Solid mahogany was the primary timber used for the frame, often decorated with contrasting satinwood or boxwood marquetry inlays, paired with upholstered fabric or woven cane seats.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut timber inlays flush with the surface, mortise-and-tenon joinery, natural age-related oxidisation on the underside, and delicate turned or tapered legs.

These chairs can be used as captains chairs at either end of a dining table, placed individually at a writing desk, or positioned in an entryway flanking a console table.

Apply a natural beeswax polish along the grain twice a year, avoid positioning the furniture near direct heat sources or sunlight, and spot-clean the upholstery using suitable textile cleaners.
