Design, Comfort & Upholstery

This English antique Edwardian office chair displays a curved bar back, and lower fan-back supports reinforce it further. The back then connects to shaped arms via elegant, vertical shaped supports. Meanwhile, the back and arms join the seat, which our workshop has newly upholstered to a professional standard in top-quality, full-grain green leather. As a result, the chair offers excellent comfort, even over extended periods of sitting. In addition, the underside of the seat has traditional re-webbing, which provides plenty of support. Finally, the English antique Edwardian revolving desk chair rests on four splayed oak legs that terminate in new solid brass and porcelain castors.

Mechanism & Adjustability

The chair incorporates its original, restored and cleaned cast-iron mechanism, which allows it to rotate a full 360 degrees and recline backwards. To adjust the seat height, simply turn the ribbed metal screw on the underside of the chair. Similarly, you can adjust the tension of the reclining action by turning the small wheel located at the back of the mechanism, on the right-hand side.

Colour & Patina

The English antique revolving office chair boasts a rich, golden oak colour. Indeed, the desk chair carries a lovely colour and patination that only age and years of careful care and cleaning can achieve.

Our workshop has newly upholstered the seat to a professional standard in top-quality, full-grain green distressed leather. Additionally, the reclining and height-adjustable mechanism work well, since we have just cleaned and restored it. Naturally, the mechanism shows some play, but this remains perfectly acceptable and consistent with the chair's age. Notably, an ingenious side locking nut reduces flex in the mechanism — a feature you rarely see on Edwardian desk chairs. Furthermore, the English antique wooden office chair boasts a rich, golden-brown colour, since our workshop has cleaned and hand French-polished it to a professional standard. The English antique desk chair also incorporates vintage steel castors in good condition. Overall, this desk chair has solid joints and stands ready to use.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Edwardian revolving desk chair is an ergonomic office seat produced in Great Britain between 1901 and 1910. Designed for commercial and home office use, these chairs combine traditional timber craftsmanship with mechanical swivel features developed during the late Industrial era.

These chairs were predominantly crafted from solid oak, mahogany, or walnut, combined with cast-iron swivel and tilt mechanisms. Seating areas were typically upholstered in thick hide leather, secured with brass studding, and supported by a four-legged base on metal or brass castors.

Authentic pieces exhibit heavy cast-iron tension screw mechanisms beneath the seat, original timber grain with genuine surface wear, hand-cut joinery, and brass or steel wheel castors. The leather upholstery often shows natural patination, and the wood possesses an aged finish consistent with early 20th-century production.

Position the chair behind a streamlined minimalist desk to create a textural contrast between industrial modernism and historic timber. It functions effectively in a dedicated home office, gentlemans library, or creative studio space.

Maintain the timber frame by applying natural beeswax polish along the grain annually to prevent drying. Clean the leather with a soft cloth and apply leather conditioner periodically to prevent cracking, while ensuring the iron swivel mechanism remains clean and lightly oiled.
