Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency dining chairs date from the early nineteenth century in Britain, inspired by Greco-Roman classical architecture. They typically feature clean lines, sabre or turned legs, low bar backrests, and high-grade mahogany or rosewood timbers.

Solid mahogany and rosewood were the primary timbers chosen for their density and grain figure. Seats were often fitted with drop-in frames upholstered in horsehair, silk, or wool velvet, supported by wooden rails and traditional peg joinery.

Authentic pieces feature period joinery, hand-carved details, classical proportions, and signs of age such as natural timber patination. Check for original drop-in seat frames, hand-planed underside rails, and correct leg shapes like turned front legs paired with splayed rear sabre legs.

Position these chairs around a simple contemporary dining table, such as marble or scrubbed oak, to create a balanced contrast. Re-upholstering the drop-in seats in modern neutral linens or bold patterned fabrics can also update their look while preserving the antique timber frame.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent drying and cracking. Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber patination.
