Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Regency period, spanning roughly 1811 to 1830, is characterised by neoclassical influences inspired by ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian architecture. Seating from this era features clean lines, reeded details, sabre legs, and decorative splats, often constructed from dense timbers such as mahogany and rosewood.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency period predominantly utilized dense hardwoods like Cuban and Honduran mahogany, prized for their fine grain and deep tone. Construction relied on hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, often accented with reeding, hand carving, or wood marquetry, combined with drop-in or fixed upholstered seats.

Authentic Regency chairs exhibit signs of hand craftsmanship, including slight asymmetry in hand-carved elements, hand-cut joinery, and natural shrinkage across wood grain surfaces over time. Original pieces typically feature heavy timber density, natural patination in recesses, and period-appropriate crest rails or carved anthemion motifs.

A single Regency chair functions as an accent piece in a hallway, bedroom corner, or alongside a contemporary writing desk. Re-upholstering the seat pad in a neutral modern linen or textured geometric fabric creates a balanced contrast between historic woodwork and modern decor.

To preserve the timber finish, dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year following the grain direction. Keep the chair away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood warping and fabric fading.
