Culvertons has dated this Georgian Glazed Corner Cabinet to the Georgian era.
Together, the cabinet and stand make a striking interior statement and provide an ideal setting for displaying a treasured collection. The cabinet has been skilfully lined with ivory-coloured moiré silk and finished with complementary braid. Its decorative fretted and inlaid swan’s-neck pediment is original, as are the fine glazing bars, which are perfectly placed to showcase the contents. The internal bolts, hinges and locks are all in excellent order, and, as shown in the images, it retains a key with a decorative tassel. Condition is very good overall, with only two or three tiny pinpoint marks to the internal silk and, as expected after around two hundred years, minor evidence of earlier restoration to the finely constructed swan’s neck. The backboards and mahogany-faced softwood shelving appear to be original; however, the pigment once used to visually blend the softwood with the mahogany has been removed, leaving the undersides of the shelves lighter in colour. This was almost certainly done so the shelves would not conflict with the colour of the silk. The cabinet and stand separate into two pieces, which will assist with delivery and positioning. Height of stand: 85.5 cm.
