This Edwardian display cabinet stems from the Sheraton Revival period around 1900, bearing a maker stamp from Edwards & Roberts. Fashioned from mahogany and satinwood with glass panels, the piece exhibits a warm brown timber tone, elaborate urn marquetry inlays upon the curved lower doors, a swan-neck pediment with a central finial, and slender tapered legs. Further visual elements include curved bowfront glazing on the upper cabinet, internal glass shelving, and a mirrored back section situated above the base. The cabinet stands approximately 180 cm tall by 100 cm wide and 50 cm deep, providing a substantial yet practical profile for interior placement. Positioned in a living room, dining room, or hallway, this cabinet serves as a striking storage and display unit for glassware, ceramics, or collectibles, bringing classic English country house character to contemporary home interiors.

FAQs

These pieces frequently draw from 18th-century Sheraton and Hepplewhite revival styles, featuring slender proportions, rich mahogany timber, elegant bowfront or serpentine glass panels, and intricate marquetry inlays depicting floral urns, ribbons, and foliage.

Primary construction relied on solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, with contrasting inlays using satinwood, boxwood, and rosewood. Upper glazed doors featured float or hand-blown glass panels, often paired with mirrored backs and velvet or timber shelving.

Authentic pieces by Edwards & Roberts often bear a stamped mark or brass nameplate on the door edge or drawer interior. Key indicators also include high-grade timber, precise dovetail joinery, smooth drawer runners, and exceptionally detailed marquetry inlay.

Position the cabinet against a neutral wall to highlight its timber tones and marquetry detail. Use the glazed shelves to display modern ceramic art, neutral stoneware, or glass collections to create a balanced contrast between traditional cabinetry and contemporary accessories.

Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood veneer lifting or fading. Clean glass with a microfibre cloth damp with water, avoiding chemical sprays near the timber, and apply beeswax sparingly to the wood once or twice a year.
