Antique Victorian Mahogany Balloon Back Chairs Set of Two C1860

Description

A particularly elegant pair of mid-Victorian mahogany balloon-back chairs, dating to approximately 1850–1870.

The backs have the characteristic open balloon-shaped outline associated with refined Victorian drawing-room and dining furniture, finished with delicate scroll detailing at the crest and a small carved roundel above the seat. The front legs are finely turned, while the rear legs sweep gently backwards, giving the chairs their light and graceful profile.

The rich mahogany has developed an attractive deep colour and patina. Both seats are upholstered in a warm salmon-toned patterned fabric, which remains in good usable condition.

Seat height: 44 cm

Very good antique condition. The frames are solid and stable, with minor age-related marks and wear consistent with approximately 160 years of use.
