Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in France during the reign of King Louis Philippe from 1830 to 1848, these mirrors are defined by their clean rectangular silhouettes featuring softly rounded upper corners and flat bottom edges.

These frames were typically constructed from carved pine or walnut, finished with plaster or gesso, and decorated with water gilding, black lacquer, or ebonised paint around silvered mirror glass.

Authentic period examples feature original wooden panelled backings, hand-carved joinery, natural foxing or oxidisation on the mirror glass, and subtle wear through the gilt layer exposing red or grey clay bole underneath.

Positioning a Louis Philippe mirror above a contemporary fireplace, leaning it on a minimalist console table, or hanging it in a cloakroom adds historical depth and contrast to modern architectural schemes.

Dust the frame gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or feather duster, avoiding liquids, abrasive cleaners, or commercial solvents that can dissolve ebonised paint or strip delicate gold leaf.
