Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency secretaire cabinet combines a drop-front writing surface with lower storage cupboards, prominent during the early nineteenth century in Britain. These pieces catered to the demand for compact multi-functional furniture for writing and storage.

Regency cabinets were primarily constructed from high-grade West Indian mahogany, rosewood, or brass inlays, frequently featuring flame mahogany veneers and decorative brass trellis or grille doors backed with silk or fabric.

Look for makers stamps such as GILLOWS LANCASTER on drawer tops, fine dovetail joinery, smooth brass action hardware, and proportions typical of the early nineteenth century. High-quality flame mahogany veneers and carved pilasters are additional hallmarks.

A mahogany secretaire functions well in a living room, hallway, or study, providing a concealed workspace behind the fall front while offering low-profile storage below. Pairing the dark timber with neutral walls and modern artwork creates a balanced focal point.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, working with the grain. Avoid placement in direct sunlight or near heat sources to prevent timber movement, drying, or fading of the veneer.
