A fine pair of French painted tub chairs dating from the early 20th century, beautifully crafted in the Louis XVI taste. The shaped frames retain their original distressed painted finish with subtle gilded highlights, lending the chairs a wonderful timeworn character that complements both traditional and contemporary interiors.
The frames are elegantly carved throughout with beaded mouldings, ribbon twist decoration, fluted legs and floral paterae to the seat rails, whilst the outswept scroll arms terminate in finely carved acanthus details. The sweeping barrel backs and generous loose seat cushions provide excellent comfort, making these chairs as practical as they are decorative.
The chairs are upholstered in a quality floral striped fabric in soft pastel tones, which remains in good, clean condition and suits the period style perfectly. Raised on elegant fluted tapering legs, they are solid, sturdy and ready for everyday use.
