Here we have for sale today this superb set of 4 Victorian Dining Chairs.

Dating 1850 ish and all made in Walnut, having these wonderful Walnut show-frames.

Standing on these carved Cabriole front legs, with this spoon back and carved top rail.

A padded and upholstered seat, newly reupholstered in this pale gold fabric and trimmed with matching braid, Seat Height 52cm

Original polish plus patina they are this rich walnut colour with a lovely polish. (please see pictures)

Solid in all joints, with no breaks.

Victorian balloon back dining chairs emerged in the mid-19th century, characterised by rounded, open-hoop backrests resembling a balloon shape, often accompanied by carved detailing and curved cabriole legs.

These chairs were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, paired with padded seats upholstered in natural fabrics like silk, wool damask, or horsehair.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-carved decorative motifs, traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery, natural timber grain variation, and hand-stitched seat webbing beneath the frame.

These chairs can be paired with a clean-lined modern oak or glass dining table to create an eclectic contrast, or placed around a traditional dining table to suit classic period interiors.

Keep timber frames away from direct heat sources and sunlight, apply natural beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain, and vacuum upholstered seats gently using a soft brush attachment.
