Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of Victorian English girandole mirrors, dating from 1885 and bearing design registration number 39766, functions as wall sconces. Each piece comprises a diamond-shaped backboard upholstered in maroon plush velvet, ornamented with cast brass shell corner mounts and a suspension ring at the top. The central circular mirror features a bevelled edge within a stepped brass frame and a rope-twist border. Flanking the mirror are twin brass candle branches with twisted arms supporting burgundy candles and drip pans. The wood structure provides stability for hanging. Each mirror measures 32 cm in height and 32 cm in width. Suitable for domestic placement on a narrow wall space in a living room, hallway, or dining room, these sconces provide atmospheric lighting when candles are lit. The reflective glass and brass mouldings catch and distribute light, while the combination of burgundy fabric and polished metal creates a distinct Victorian and Gothic design aesthetic. The pair comes ready to hang with original hardware.

FAQs

A girandole mirror is an ornamental wall-mounted mirror fitted with attached candle branches, designed during the 17th to 19th centuries to reflect flame light into living spaces.

Victorian examples commonly featured cast or stamped brass candle branches, mirrored glass plates, and decorative textile backings like silk or velvet mounted onto wooden backing panels.

Authentic period pieces show signs of age such as natural metal oxidisation, early slot-headed brass screws, original hand-cut wooden backings, and subtle silvering wear on the mirror glass.

Girandole mirrors can be mounted as a pair flanking a central fireplace, positioned along a hallway corridor, or hung above a sideboard to introduce classical texture and ambient candlelight.

Dust the velvet fabric gently with a soft brush attachment, wipe the mirror plate using a microfibre cloth, and leave any brass surfaces unpolished to preserve the historical patina.
