A wonderful late Victorian biscuit box or barrel, made from solid English Oak and the fittings in silver plate.
One side of the box has a cast image of the wheat being harvested and the other side a lady with baked goods. Each of the hinged lids is mounted with a cartouche, one engraved with the decorative monogram for the original owner the other vacant.
The top has a highly decorative silver plated fern engraved panel with a solid handle to the top.
Once the lids are opened, the original metallic liners are revealed.
Dating to c.1890, it remains in excellent condition measuring 8 1/2'' wide x 6 1/4'' x 7 3/4'' tall to top of handle.
