Exquisite Japanese Antique Meiji (early 20thc) Fujii Damascene Iron Box, Fujii Miho

Japanese antique Meiji (early 20thC) Fujii Damascene iron box by Fujii Miho, with a beautiful gold and silver inlaid landscape and Mt Fuji design on the lid. Other panels depict traditional buildings, fishing boats, foliage and a torii gate, while the inside is finely engraved on gold with land and seascapes. Fuji mark on the base. Comes in a wooden box. 2.7cm high x 6.4cm wide x 4.7cm deep, weight 145g.
 
Excellent original condition. A little gem.
 
Japanese Damascene, known as Kyo-zogan or Komai-zogan, is a traditional metalwork technique where pure gold and silver are meticulously inlaid into a textured, blackened steel or iron base. This box was crafted by the Fujii Damascene Company, founded by the renowned Meiji-era metalworker Yoshitoyo Fujii (1868-1942).
