This set of four Victorian Windsor kitchen dining chairs follows a design by Charles Eastlake from the nineteenth century, circa 1850 to 1870. The chairs are constructed from elm and beech wood, finished in a dark brown tone that highlights the natural grain of the timber. Each chair features a spindle back arrangement supporting a carved crest rail with decorative detailing at the top corners, complemented by a shaped solid wooden seat and turned front legs. Visible signs of age include surface wear and varied grain patterns across the wooden components. Measuring 84 cm high, 43 cm wide, and 46 cm deep, these dining chairs suit daily use around a kitchen table or within a traditional dining room setting to provide seating for four people.

Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, ensuring joints remain stable and keeping the timber away from direct heat sources.

Pairing dark wood antique chairs with a modern minimalist table or a scrubbed pine farmhouse table creates a balanced contrast between historic character and contemporary lines.

Authentic pieces feature machine-carved or hand-chiseled decorative motifs on the top rail, spindle construction wedged into solid wooden seats, and age-appropriate wear to the timber varnish and joinery.

These chairs were commonly crafted using native hardwoods such as elm for the contoured seats, along with beech, ash, or oak for the turned legs, stretchers, and back spindles.

Eastlake Windsor chairs combine the classic spindle-back and turned-leg construction of traditional Windsor seating with the geometric, incised, or relief carving typical of the late nineteenth-century Eastlake movement.
