Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George III giltwood mirrors, dating from the mid-to-late 18th century, are defined by intricate carving inspired by Rococo, Neoclassical, and Chippendale designs, featuring C-scrolls, acanthus leaves, and floral cresting finished in gold leaf.

These mirrors were crafted from hand-carved softwoods, such as pine or lime, coated with a layer of gesso, and water-gilded or oil-gilded using thin sheets of gold leaf over hand-blown mirror glass.

Authentic pieces display subtle variations in hand-carved details, evidence of red or yellow bole clay beneath worn gilding, original hand-blown glass with light foxing, and natural wood shrinkage on the reverse framing.

Position the mirror above a contemporary console table or fireplace mantelpiece to create a focal point that balances traditional carving with modern architectural lines.

Dust the carved frame using a dry, soft-bristled brush or feather duster, avoiding water or chemical cleaners that can dissolve gesso or lift delicate gold leaf.
