This George III oval wall mirror dates from around 1770 and originates in England. The robustly carved giltwood frame displays original water gilding in a bright gold colour and surrounds a nineteenth-century replacement glass plate. Richly ornamented in a French Chateau style, the elaborate design incorporates openwork pierced details, dynamic C-scrolls, acanthus leaf carvings, and an exuberant tall floral cresting at the top with a pointed finial. The symmetrical frame measures 153 cm high, 77 cm wide, and 12.5 cm deep. Suitable for domestic placement in a hallway, bedroom, or living area, this decorative piece makes a striking focal point mounted directly on a wall or positioned above a mantelpiece.
