FAQs

Kashmiri lacquerware, traditionally crafted from compressed paper pulp or wood, has roots dating back centuries in the Kashmir region, where artisans decorated objects with intricate hand-painted floral motifs.

These pieces are typically constructed from a wooden or papier-mache base, coated with multiple layers of lacquer, and meticulously hand-painted with mineral pigments and gold leaf detailing.

Authenticity is identified through age-appropriate surface wear, traditional hand-mixed pigments, fine crackle patterns in the lacquer, and the distinct characteristics of late 19th-century craft techniques.

They can be displayed on coffee tables, bookshelves, or sideboards as standalone decorative objects or utilised to store small keepsakes, adding texture and rich colour to a room.

Preserve lacquerware by keeping it out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, maintaining stable humidity levels, and dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth without using liquid cleaners or abrasives.
