This pair of 19th-century French armchairs is made of dark brown oak in the Breton style. Each chair stands 125 cm high, measures 67 cm wide, and extends 53 cm deep. The high backrest incorporates a rectangular wooden panel carved in relief with traditional folk figures in a landscape, bordered by an arched upper moulding, while the cresting rails and lower seat aprons display slender turned spindle galleries. The upright posts terminate in small turned finials at the top. The armrests end in carved animal head terminals above turned supports, leading down to a solid flat seat and straight legs joined by stretchers. These armchairs suit a living room, hallway, or study as statement seating pieces or side chairs against a wall.
