Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of 1930 Jacobean Revival dining chairs exhibits a dark brown oak finish with rich red textured upholstery. Each high backrest displays intricate foliate and leaf carvings alongside vertical splats, flanked by barley twist uprights and matching lower stretchers. The framework stands on turned bulbous front legs and plain rear supports, joined by turned side stretchers that lend traditional character. Newly covered seats provide firm cushioning for daily dining use, while the visible grain of the timber shows natural warm tones. Each chair measures 108 cm high, 42 cm wide, and 48 cm deep, offering a compact footprint suited for dining tables or hallway settings. Placed around a period dining table, they bring traditional warmth to a family room or serve as statement seats in an entrance hallway. Their sturdy construction and historical aesthetic integrate smoothly into traditional or eclectic interior schemes today.

FAQs

Jacobean style furniture originates from the 17th-century reign of King James I and is characterised by sturdy oak construction, dark wood finishes, and ornate carving such as botanical motifs and barley twist turnings.

Solid oak was the predominant timber used in traditional Jacobean seating, paired with mortise and tenon joinery, intricate relief carving, and textile or leather upholstery.

Key identification features include high backrest frames, spiral barley twist legs or uprights, carved foliage details, and solid dark oak construction.

These high-backed chairs function well as accent seating in a hallway or entry, or as end chairs at a contemporary dining table to create balance between historic detail and modern minimalism.

Dust the timber regularly with a dry cloth and apply a neutral beeswax polish periodically, keeping the wood away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking.
