Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This English Art Deco overmantle mirror, dating from 1930, incorporates clear glass, peach glass, and wood. The piece features a scalloped arch frame in peach-tinted glass enclosing a clear central pane decorated with an etched fan motif radiating from a central point. Chrome mounting clips secure the glass components to the original wood back. Signs of age include subtle surface wear and minor spotting across the glass panes, along with metal fixing loops visible on the outer edges. Measuring 93 cm high, 76 cm wide, and 2 cm deep, the mirror sits suitably above a mantelpiece or within a living room scheme to reflect light and add period character to an interior.

FAQs

Popular during the 1920s and 1930s, English Art Deco overmantel mirrors frequently feature geometric profiles, stepped or scalloped arches, and decorative coloured glass borders such as peach or amber.

These mirrors typically consist of a clear central mirror pane, often decorated with floral or fan etching, combined with peach-tinted glass border sections mounted onto a solid wooden backing board with metal clips.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit original silvering characteristics, solid wooden backing panels, period mounting fixtures, and hand-etched central design motifs.

Position the mirror centrally above a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard to allow the tinted glass to reflect warm light throughout the room.

Clean the glass surface using a soft microfibre cloth and specialized glass cleaner, ensuring no liquid seeps behind the glass panels or contacts the backing silvering.
