This Victorian music box from circa 1875 is made from ebonised wood finished in black, complemented by visible brass, glass and steel components. The rectangular hinged lid opens to display a printed tune card attached to the interior, listing six airs, alongside an internal glass dust lid protecting the pinned brass cylinder and the multi-toothed steel comb mechanism. A small winding handle protrudes from the left side within the casing, and brass hinges secure the lid. The object measures 13 cm high, 43 cm wide, 19 cm deep. Placed on top of a sideboard in a gentleman's library or a study, it provides traditional decorative interest and can be used to play music in the room.
