Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This set of four Georgian crystal glass rummers dates from approximately 1800. Each piece is formed from clear lead crystal with a round bowl tapering towards a short turned stem and terminating in a square lemon squeezer moulded base. The upper section of every bowl carries an intricate wheel-engraved band featuring delicate feather motifs and a dotted upper border, while the thick base displays geometric moulded facets. The dimensions measure 14 cm high by 10 cm wide. These drinking vessels suit placement on a dining table or sideboard top for display and daily use in a traditional or period interior.

FAQs

Rummer glasses were introduced in the late 18th century as large drinking vessels for spirits, punch, and toddy. The square lemon squeezer base was produced using press-moulding techniques popular in Britain between 1780 and 1820.

Georgian rummers were hand-blown using heavy lead glass, with wheel-engraved or cut decoration applied to the bowl. The distinct square foot was created separately using a two-part press mould and fused to the stem collar while hot.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-made irregularities, minor mould wear on the underside of the foot, high density from lead content, and natural surface wear consistent with age along the base edges.

These geometric-based glasses function well displayed on a drinks trolley, arranged inside a glazed cabinet, or set on a dining table for entertaining.

Antique lead crystal must be hand-washed in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding dishwashers, thermal shocks, and abrasive materials that could compromise the glass surface.
