This Georgian double series opaque twist wine glass dates from the 18th century, specifically around 1765. The piece is crafted from clear lead crystal and stands 14.7 cm high. It features an ogee-shaped bowl with wrythened fluting to the lower third, resting on a stem with a double series opaque twist. The stem terminates in a circular conical foot, which bears dealer or collector stickers on the underside alongside a rough pontil mark. There are signs of age-related wear and tear to the rim of the foot, consistent with historical use. Ideal for display on a sideboard top, this glassware suits traditional table settings or collector cabinets within an English country house interior style. The design provides a functional and decorative accent for contemporary living spaces where historic tableware is appreciated.

Opaque twist wine glasses are 18th-century British drinking vessels defined by intricate white enamel canes enclosed within clear glass stems. Produced predominantly between 1755 and 1780, these pieces were crafted using specialised glass-making techniques following taxation changes on raw glass materials.

These glasses were hand-blown using lead crystal, which provided high clarity and refractive index. The white spiral patterns within the stem were created using dense white opaque enamel canes embedded into the clear glass matrix before drawing and twisting the rod.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit signs of age such as genuine wear under the foot rim, minor striations, or air bubbles within the glass. Look for a snapped or smoothed pontil mark on the underside of the base, asymmetric hand-blown proportions, and appropriate weight characteristic of 18th-century lead glass.

Historic glassware can be displayed inside illuminated glazed cabinets, arranged on polished timber sideboards, or styled on a bar cart alongside contemporary decanters to provide visual contrast and historical context.

Wash stemware individually by hand in lukewarm water using a mild liquid detergent. Avoid dishwashers, abrasive sponges, and extreme temperature changes, which can induce thermal shock and cause fracture or clouding.
