Victorian button back seating emerged during the 19th century, characterised by deep tufted upholstery that secured the padding while creating a distinctive geometric pattern on the backrest.

These frames were typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or beech, traditionally stuffed with natural fibres like horsehair and wool before being spring-loaded.

Authenticity is identified through traditional hand-tied coil springs, hand-turned wooden legs often fitted with brass or porcelain castors, and period-appropriate joinery and materials within the internal frame.

Pairing this traditional silhouette with minimalist modern furniture creates a balanced interior, allowing the historical form to act as a sophisticated accent piece.

Preservation involves regular gentle vacuuming with a soft brush attachment for the fabric and treating the exposed wooden elements with appropriate microcrystalline wax to maintain the finish.
