FAQs

Windsor chairs originated in England during the early 18th century, developing from traditional vernacular woodworking techniques where individual spindles and legs are driven directly into a solid sculpted wooden seat.

Authentic Windsor chairs typically feature a combination of native hardwoods, utilizing elm or fruitwood for the heavy saddle-sculpted seats, ash or oak for the bentwood bows and spindles, and beech or birch for the turned legs.

Authenticity is assessed by examining hand-turned tool marks, wedged tenon joints visible through the seat top, timber shrinkage patterns, and the distinct patina developed from decades of traditional use and wax polishing.

These chairs provide textural contrast when paired with a contemporary minimalist dining table or mixed around a rustic farmhouse table to introduce warmth, heritage craftsmanship, and organic forms into a room.

Preserve the timber by maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct heat sources, and periodically applying a microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood surface without obscuring the historic finish.
