This carved oak spinners chair dates to the nineteenth century in the English Country style. It is fashioned from solid dark brown timber with an original polish and patina, standing on four turned legs. The circular seat and tall backrest display extensive floral relief carving, complemented by a distinctive crescent handgrip at the apex of the back. Overall dimensions measure 94 cm high, 31 cm wide, and 41 cm deep. Suitable for placement as an accent piece in a traditional living room, hallway, or bedroom, the chair provides a practical seating option with solid joints. The design brings historic character to interior spaces while offering a compact footprint that fits easily into corners or beside occasional tables.

A spinning chair is a low-backed wooden seat traditionally used by women during hand-spinning tasks, designed to allow freedom of movement for the arms while working at a spinning wheel.

These pieces are typically constructed from solid native hardwoods like oak or elm, featuring pegged mortise and tenon joints, turned legs, and intricate hand-carved relief detailing on the backrest and seat.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate joinery methods, tool marks indicating hand-carving, natural timber oxidisation, and wear patterns consistent with age rather than artificial distressing.

This compact seating piece functions effectively as an accent chair in a living room corner, beside a fireplace, or as a decorative statement piece in a hallway.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight exposure, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the wooden surface.
