Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The upper section provides display space with a shaped concave top, a neat gallery, and gilt brass baluster supports above the lower base. The base has two central cupboard doors flanked by a single door cupboard on either side, all fitted with panelled cupboard doors and standing on turned feet. The cabinet measures 114 cm high, 122.5 cm wide, and 49 cm deep. Practical for everyday use, this side cabinet provides storage and display space in a dining room, living room, hallway, or study. The top surface and upper shelves accommodate decorative items, books, or tableware, while the lower cupboards conceal interior storage. The piece stands ready for placement in an interior setting, pairing well with traditional or period furniture arrangements.

FAQs

A chiffonier is a low sideboard or cupboard originating in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, designed for storage and display. Typically featuring an upper shelf raised on turned supports above enclosed cupboard doors, these pieces provided functional storage in Georgian dining and drawing rooms.

Georgian chiffoniers were constructed from hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, frequently incorporating flame mahogany veneers on door panels. Structural elements include hand-cut dovetail joinery, brass shelf supports, and turned wooden feet.

Authentic 19th-century chiffoniers feature hand-planed secondary woods like pine or oak inside the cabinet, hand-cut joints, and period lock mechanisms. Natural surface patination and period-appropriate turned or reeded legs also signal original construction.

A chiffonier functions effectively as a hallway server, dining room sideboard, or living room accent cabinet. Pairing its timber tones with modern ceramic vessels or structured artwork creates a balanced contrast between traditional and contemporary design elements.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply bees-wax polish twice annually to nourish the wood finish. Position the cabinet away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber movement, veneer lifting, or finish discoloration.
