Burr wood snuff boxes were popular pocket containers used during the Georgian and Victorian eras for holding powdered tobacco, often featuring clever mechanisms or secret compartments known as trick boxes.

They were typically constructed from highly figured burr timber, such as walnut, elm, or maple, carefully veneered or turned, and often fitted with tight lids to preserve the moisture and aroma of the contents.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural ageing, hand-polished finishes with warm patination, traditional joinery techniques, and distinct grain patterns inherent to true burr timber rather than printed laminates.

These small collectable items can be displayed on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or coffee table as a tactile accent piece that adds historical texture to contemporary spaces.

Preserve the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, applying microcrystalline wax sparingly to maintain the finish without damaging the grain.
