Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian side chairs from the 18th century are characterised by balanced proportions, carved splats, and sturdy frame joinery. Design influences from Thomas Chippendale and George Hepplewhite often features pierced back designs, serpentine top rails, and square or tapered legs.

Primary woods included dense Cuban mahogany and English oak, valued for durability and rich grain structure. Traditional joinery utilised mortise and tenon joints, while drop-in seats were padded with natural materials such as horsehair and cotton batting.

Authentic period chairs display irregular hand-cut saw marks, hand-carved details, and original pegged timber joinery. The underside of the seat frames typically shows natural ageing, oxidation of the wood, and hand-planed surfaces rather than uniform modern machine cuts.

These chairs function well placed on either side of a console table, used as accent seating in a hallway, or placed at an office desk. Pairing historic carved timber frames with modern minimalist backgrounds creates a balanced, layered aesthetic.

Maintain the wood finish by applying a natural beeswax polish twice a year along the grain. Keep the chairs away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage or fabric fading, and spot clean upholstery with suitable fabric treatments.
